How long does a custom engagement ring take?
At Lola Ade, most custom engagement rings are completed approximately 4–6 weeks after the final design is approved, although timing can vary based on design complexity, stone sourcing and other factors.
If you’re planning a proposal, however, we recommend starting earlier.
Why?
Because production is only part of the process. You should give yourself time to explore ideas and choose the right stone without feeling rushed.
Step 1: Consultation
Your custom journey begins with a conversation.
We discuss your partner’s style, inspiration photos, preferred diamond shape, natural versus lab-grown preferences, metal, approximate carat size, budget and proposal timeline.
Don’t worry if you don’t know all the answers.
Helping you figure them out is part of our job.
Step 2: Diamond or gemstone selection
Next, we identify center-stone options based on your priorities.
This is where expert guidance matters.
Two diamonds can look nearly identical on a grading report while performing very differently visually. We consider the entire stone rather than selecting solely by numbers.
Step 3: Design
Once we understand the desired ring, we translate those ideas into a custom design.
Depending on the project, this may include CAD renderings that allow you to review proportions and design details before production.
Step 4: Approval
You review the design and approve it before your ring enters production.
This is an important advantage of custom design: you participate in creating the piece rather than simply accepting whatever is available in a display case.
Step 5: Production
Once approved, your ring moves into production.

When should I contact a jeweler before proposing?
Earlier is better.
If you know you want to propose in December, don’t wait until December to begin researching.
Starting several months ahead gives you time to learn, compare options, make thoughtful decisions and account for any unexpected changes.
